Founded in 1986, Classico Italia is this year celebrating its 30th anniversary. Created under the impulse of Stefano Ricci, it has brought together some of the most important entrepreneurs in Men’s fashion, who have become not only fellow consortium members but also close friends. The initial intention had been to strengthen the ties between the various actors of the Italian sector of hand-made menswear, where care and attention to detail is equal to none.
Claudio Marenzi has been at the helm of the association for more than ten years now. Thanks to him, the group has remained open to innovation, contemporary fashion and design, both in an Italian and international context.
Memorable events have taken place these past 30 years, beginning with the 1987 exhibition “Pop Art America-Europa”, the acrobatic theatre show by “La Fura dels Baus” in Piazza Pitti, fashion shows in the Uffizi courtyard and the magnificent Teatro della Pergola, as well as the first International Polo Tournament at the Visarno Racecourse, with the participation, among others, of the actor Sylvester Stallone.
Other highlights include “Windows on Classico Italia”, a competition between the most important American retailers for the best window decoration dedicated to Italy and “Image Power”, an impressive exhibition with some of the most famous international fashion and costume magazine covers of the last 50 years, and last but not least, the “Tribute to Classico”, an exhibition curated by Gianluca Tenti, celebrating Italian elegance and craftsmanship through the stars of the big screen.
We have celebrated many international figures over the years and we are particularly fond of remembering the award attributed to the memory of Giovan Battista Giorgini who organized the first Palazzo Pitti fashion show in 1952, the founding event which led to all the rest…
During Pitti Immagine, the Classico Italia collections will be presented in the main area of the top floor of the Fortezza da Basso’s central pavilion from June 14th to 17th.
Do drop by and raise a glass to our first 30 years of activity.
